Bring history to life with a visit from Apra and Beth, co-founders of The Ration Room and lifelong World War II enthusiasts. Our interactive school sessions are designed to transport pupils back to the 1940s, giving them a hands-on experience of life during the Second World War.

What to Expect

Whether it’s a morning or afternoon session, Apra brings along real replica artefacts, passionate storytelling, and plenty of opportunities for pupils to get involved. We cover key elements of wartime Britain in line with the National Curriculum. Perfect for primary school learners.

The Session Includes:

  • Trying on replica gas masks and understanding how children prepared for air raids

  • Tasting ration-era chocolate, just like it was in the 1940s. Made to our authentic recipe

  • Hands-on look at ration books, identity cards, and other daily life essentials

  • Q&A with Apra, where children can ask anything, and they always do!

  • Photos of the sessions for teachers and parents to use

Why Schools Love Us

We’re more than just a talk, we’re a time-travelling experience. Our sessions help pupils connect emotionally and practically with a key period in British history, sparking curiosity and deepening understanding through play, taste, and interaction.

Apra’s warm, engaging style makes pupils feel comfortable asking questions and getting stuck in. Teachers regularly tell us how much children remember us weeks, even months later!
